The Olympic Opening Ceremony is TONIGHT 

Tonight is the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics.  There has been much controversy over this Olympic year. The site of Rio being economically challenged, Zika virus, and the Russians being banned due to substance abuse are just a few of the headlines. I heard the Olympic Rings were just added to the stadium yesterday and the waters around Rio are polluted which is concerning for the water sports of rowing and kitesurfing among others. 

This Olympic year will make history I’m sure. My eyes will be on Usane Bolt, Michael Phelps, and Ibtihaj Muhammad among others. Some of my favorite events are swimming, men’s and women’s volleyball, and sand volleyball and tennis.  I’m gonna have to check TV schedules and set up some recordings just to make sure I don’t miss anything. 

I mentioned kitesurfing, yes, it is an Olympic sport!  It along with golf and seven rugby were added for the 2016 Olympics. I’m not much of a golf fan so that is one sport I will not be watching, kitesurfing on the other hand could be interesting.   I’m thinking they dropped rugby and golf years ago for a reason, not sure why they are bringing them back, but they are. 

It’ll be nice to take a break from the political nonsense that’s taking place now and focus on sports that bring all Americans together along with individuals from around the world. What are some of your favorite events/competitors?  I just love hearing our National Anthem and the USA USA chants!
