National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
So today is national chocolate chip cookie day. I really wonder how these days get assigned. I’m sure there must be a monetary value recorded by someone to mark these days a holiday. I mean I’m not going to say that I don’t like chocolate chip cookies, but I don’t think they deserve a national day.
So what’s a person supposed to do on national chocolate chip day, eat cookies? I mean I don’t think whipping up a batch of cookies and then proceeding to eat them will benefit anyone. While there is effort that goes into making cookies, they can be a pain, but I’m sure the calories exhausted making them are far fewer than those that are consumed. It can be a long drawn out process, not to mention a hot one especially if you live in a hot place like Florida. Nothing like a 350 degree oven working against the air conditioner.
You could just go buy a box of cookies that to me taste like sand paper, no I’ve never eaten sand paper but the crumble and are just dry. Once you’re used to making/eating the homemade ones you really frown on the boxed ones. I can’t remember how old I was when I had my first store bought cookie, maybe it was when I sold Girl Scout Cookies. I know I was old enough to know the cookies that my Mother and Grandmother made were so much better. Only problem was baking with them was an entire day affair. Not because we were slow but because we made hundreds of cookies at a time! I’ve even been known to make a hundred cookies at a time myself, just because I was baking cookies, no real reason. I’ve also participated in a Christmas cookie exchange once but finding people willing and able to bake cookies these days is difficult.
We’d be baking and sharing with neighbor’s and then being sure to have some extras in the freezer for later. There is something very good about a frozen cookie. I can’t explain it, but they are good! It’s also nice to have some in the freezer if company drops in unexpected. It just takes minutes to thaw so by the time the iced tea is prepared, the cookies are thawed and ready to eat.
Of course freshly baked cookies are good too. I mean there is a reason many real estate agents bake cookies right before an open house. If I’ve made way too much cookie batter and am tired of baking, or its just too hot in the house, I will use my small ice cream scoop to make the remaining balls and then just throw them in the freezer. They do keep nicely and when I want a freshly baked cookie, I just take the balls out and put them on a pan and bake. No thawing necessary.
So here’s to National Chocolate Chip Day!
My sources tell me tomorrow is National Underwear Day….. Not writing about that one, and certainly not posting a picture, you’re on your own but feel free to make your own post/comments about National Underwear Day in the comments section.
