Go Shockers……
My nephew is a high jumper for the Wichita State Shockers. They are competing in the West Regional of the NCAA Outdoor Championship. He enters the event with a personal best over 7 ft and is the American Athletic Conference Champion. Can you tell I’m a proud Aunt? Here’s a look at his winning jump (posted on WSU Track & XC Instagram site). I believe those are size 15 shoes that are up and over!! When I take flight I’m in a plane, he lifts off with his own strength and I’m just in awe.
Not sure when he jumps, but I’ll do my best to keep track even though I’m outside of the US. If you are going to follow WSU, please send me a message so I know how he scores. I sure do hope he has a good day.
As for the cover, that’s a ‘shocker’ the WSU mascot. I had to ask my nephew what the heck a ‘shocker’ was. Evidently it’s not that far off from Husker. A shocker is short for ‘wheatshocker’ which if I remember correctly, is what they used to call individuals that gathered wheat. In my family we have both wheat experts (shockers and ranchers up in South Dakota) and Cornhuskers in Nebraska. Pretty cool when you think about it. Two universities that pay respect to the individuals they serve most in Kansas and Nebraska.
Best of luck to my nephew and his entire Shocker team.
