A national day for….

Today is national Chicken Wing Day.  Honestly, it is; I can’t even make this up!  I will apologize to those who didn’t get a Hallmark card from me for this special day, but know it’s probably in the bin with your birthday card from 1995 that I just never sent. I’m just not, and never have been, a card sending person.  In the event you do get a card from me, know that it is a rare occurrence.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the words on a Hallmark card, some are excellent, it’s just the pressure of finding the right card that has the right words that’s all too much for me. Standing infront of the numerous cards, plucking one after one from the slots and reading it is just too time consuming. Really, I’ve been known to spend more than 30 minutes looking and reading cards just trying to find the right one.

So back to national Chicken Wing Day.  It really is a day but I’m not sure if it’s a Hallmark day. I’m not going to say that I don’t like wings, cause I do like them it’s just the buffalo style and even any style of wings really goes against most eating etiquette I’ve learned.

First you’re just knowing on them until all the meat is gone.  If you got the non-drumstick part of the wing, it’s hard to get the chicken out from in between the bones without going in with the fingers. And if you have anything but a dry wing, that sauce, that red sauce, is going to be everywhere. On your fingers, on your face, and even on your shirt. No matter how delicately you try to eat the wings, the sauce will be everywhere!

Then you can’t just eat one or two, if you’re having a meal of chicken wings you’re eating a lot of them. The bones pile up on the plate and it looks like you’ve devoured an entire bucket yet you’ve eaten less meat than a single chicken breast. For men the pile of bones may make them feel macho as they look to eat more than the man sitting next to them, while a female with a pile of bones is seen in a much harsher light.

I guess the good thing is it’s Friday so if you’re looking to partake in National Chicken Wing Day, today is the day.  Go out his evening with a group of friends and order chicken wings.

What’s your favorite style of wings?  Fried, baked, battered, buffalo, sweet & sour?  And where is your favorite spot? Go forward and enjoy but be sure to let me know your favorites.
