Let the fun begin…
So I’m just finishing my packing for my trip. Some of you may know where I’m going, some may not, but I think everyone knows the goal is to visit all seven continents prior to 50. Well tomorrow I’ll be able to check one more off the list.
I’m probably the least prepared for this trip. I just started and finished packing this evening. And as most of you know, lately we’ve gone on organized group tours to Scandinavia, Russia, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, Spain, Morocco etc. where all I had to do was show up at the starting point with a bag; no actual planning needed. This trip is different, so we shall see if I’m a good tour planner or if I should just leave it to the experts next time.
We started planning in February. Asked for time off from work, purchased airline tickets, train tickets, hotels, entrance fees and all. Then it was sit and wait. Well, I sat a little too long and waited too long to pack. But that too is ok because we are traveling with just a carryon roller bag and a backpack. Lite but probably still packed too much because I filled the carryon to the top. Maybe I should have packed less so I had room to bring back a souvenir or too (FYI, don’t expect a gift). But I’m not taking anything out at this point. It’s all ready to go.
We travel to Miami to catch the plane out. We didn’t really see and good connections out of Tampa so we figured we’d just road trip to Miami. Who doesn’t like Miami (my hand is raised)?
I’m not a fan of Miami because there is so much traffic and so many people. I’ve flown into Miami airport once, with a connecting flight and did not like it at all. I’m hoping it will be better as a few years have passed. I’m going on with an open mind and leaving extra time so it will be easy right? I don’t really like flying so we shall see. I truly hoping for a smooth flight.
As a side note….. My flight from Omaha to Houston on Monday was everything but! First flight was delayed about 1.5 hours because the plane the night before arrived late in Chicago and it was on a ground halt as the crew needed rest. Then once in Omaha we took off pretty quickly, only problem was that delay put us right in the path of the developing storms that left 30 tornadoes in the mid west. It was so bumpy we were saying prayers. So I’m hopeful the Miami flight is nothing like that. everything was worth it as I got to see my nephew graduate from high school. In addition to seeing other family members.
Now back to Miami…. We are flying on an airline I’ve never been on in the past. For those familiar with my blog, you know my favorite airline is Lufthansa hands down. I’ve been in first class, business class and coach on this airline and I truly like all three. If downgrading was a thing and I was downgraded to coach from first or business class on Lufthansa, I truly would not be upset. Maybe a little disappointed, but not upset. They truly offer the best service across all classes; can’t say the same for many of the American domestic carriers.
Well that’s all for now, stay tuned to see where I land……
