I caved… well sorta…
After noticing an influx of people at the Safety Harbor Marina…. After walking through town to see so many people walking with their heads looking into their phones… and after being told that I live in the Mecca of all places…. I signed up for PokemonGo.
Ok, throw balls at me… I said I only signed up for it; I haven’t actually been to the Marina yet. From the comfort of my couch, I can open the app and see many blue diamonds. When I tap on some of them, many of them, they are places that I frankly didn’t know existed, yet just a few blocks from my house.
So I wonder, do I take the leap and follow where my phone leads me… to those blue diamonds? I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do once I get to the diamond. Click on it and watch it spin? It does that when I touch it while sitting on my couch!
Look at that dinosaur thing in the middle of the picture below. What is that? Is it important? Should I go?
Or look at the picture below. See all those blue diamonds and the purple? That’s the Marina, that’s the Mecca of Pokemon (at least what I’m told). Maybe I should go there too. But look, along the way there are more blue diamonds. Are they important too?
Geez, I really don’t know if this is something I want to start. I’ve heard people spending hours at the Marina catching Pokemon. When I’ve walked to the Marina lately, I hear a lot of ‘oohs and ahhs’ as people catch things that I can’t pronounce. I mean is there a dictionary so we know how to properly pronounce these creatures?
The thing is at the Marina there are people younger than me and older than me that are playing the game. I think over all it must be a good game because people are out and about socializing, albeit many ignoring eye contact with each other. I did see families spending time together as people catch these creatures and I’ve been told the game promotes movement as you must be walking to ‘hatch eggs’. But I do feel there is the possibility of some cheating in this area as people have been known to ask others to do the walking for them. Not going to mention how I know about this.
So here I am, where I was when I began this writing…. Do I search out the blue diamonds? Do I go to the Mecca of Pokemon? ……….. for now I’m comfortable with just having the app on my phone. Maybe the next time I have someone at my house that is interested in the game, I too will play.
